What's happening at yours this weekend?
At our place, it looks something like this:
- Drop in to the community garden open day.
- Help a new flatmate settle in.
- Visit the local cafe-slash-bakery for a pie and a flat white.
- Watch a movie with some mates.
- Catch up on the rugby test.
- Head out of the city to a craft market.
- Nap, read books, and wander down to the park/playground.
What about the time in between? Transit time will be time to chat, get some exercise, be alone, catch up on a podcast, or just enjoy being outside. This is because, other than the trip to the craft market, we're unlikely to take a car.
Proximity matters. It transforms dead time (burning fossil fuels, no less) into another piece of the weekend, whether you're seeking relaxation, recreation, retreat or productivity (I couldn't think of another R-word).
