Co-working for the Trades

There's a piece we're missing in the property conversation: The people who build our homes. The skilled tradespeople who make their livings from translating ideas into built reality.

With the trend towards co-working for entrepreneurs and freelancers, is there an opportunity for a similar shared space for tradespeople? Hopefully, the space would have a similar impact on workers, such as:

  • Create more opportunities for collaboration;
  • Reduce fixed costs and overheads for small operators;
  • Provide a high-quality environment that encourages great work normally out-of-reach of small businesses or independent contractors;
  • Pool expertise, contacts and skills and leverage off shared experience;
  • Create a diverse group of individual; and
  • Connect people.

If we could align the space with an aspirational ideal, something greater than the simple commercial aspect of business, all the signs point towards this being a highly engaged, creative, productive and enjoyable work* environment.

A social enterprise co-work space for tradespeople focussed on doing great work, well, and changing the world.

Some of us desk-jockeys might find ourselves wanting to pick up the tools too...

*And surely we could squeeze some apartments in next door.
